PayPal
Captures and refunds PayPal payments, and reconciles PayPal activity back onto the order.
Overview
Payment data goes wrong in a predictable way: someone does something in the provider’s dashboard, and the order never finds out. A refund is issued twice. A capture is chased that already happened. Finance reconciles by hand at month end.
The PayPal app treats the order as the place that has to be right. Captures and refunds driven from Hantera_ are settled through one decision, so an order cannot be paid twice or credited twice by two different routes. Actions taken directly in PayPal are reconciled back onto the order as they are reported.
Notifications occasionally go missing — an outage, a webhook configured after the fact, a refund issued before anyone connected the two systems. For those, there is a re-sync on the order itself. It only ever adds what is missing, so pressing it again is safe.
The app also ships a redirect checkout, which is useful on its own and works well as an extra payment method inside a hosted checkout.
What it does
-
Unified settlement
One rule both captures outstanding authorizations and refunds over-charged captures, based on the remaining balance, so an order cannot be settled twice by two routes.
-
Webhook reconciliation
Verified PayPal events are applied back to the payment, so captures, refunds and voids performed in PayPal's dashboard do not leave the order out of date.
-
Manual re-sync
A Sync from PayPal action on the order fetches authoritative state and adds anything missing — safe to run repeatedly, for when a webhook was missed or configured late.
-
Optional redirect checkout
A self-contained start-to-return checkout flow that creates the payment and completes the cart, usable on its own or as an external method inside a hosted checkout.
-
Capture references
Merchant rules can stamp invoice id and soft descriptor values on the payment, which are forwarded when the authorization is captured.
Apps that usually run together.
Most operations install more than one. These are the apps this one is most often paired with, because they share the same order.
